BROWSE BY SECTOR

Where Ghana's growth stories meet your portfolio

Sectors are a practical way to diversify and to compare opportunities — not a substitute for reading each offer document. SMEs across agriculture, technology, manufacturing, and more face different demand cycles, regulations, and risks. Use this guide as a starting point; every campaign stands on its own facts.

How we use sector labels

Each live campaign on Ardent CrowdFund is tagged with a sector that reflects the issuer's primary business activity. Labels help you filter listings and think about diversification — they do not indicate endorsement, credit quality, or expected returns.

Offerings differ by structure (equity, debt, convertible, blended), minimum ticket, and risk profile. The sections below summarise common themes investors often review in offer materials; they are not investment advice. Always read the full offer document and risk disclosures for each campaign.

Diversification

Spreading commitments across sectors may reduce concentration in a single demand shock or regulatory change — but it does not remove risk. Combine sector awareness with position sizing and liquidity needs that suit your circumstances.

Sectors we list

Agriculture

View campaigns

Agriculture remains central to Ghana’s economy and food security. From cocoa and grains to poultry and packaged foods, SMEs in this sector often tie revenue to seasonal cycles, commodity prices, and logistics. Crowdfunding can surface growth projects across production, processing, and distribution — each with distinct operating and regulatory considerations.

Themes in offer documents
  • Supply contracts, off-take arrangements, and concentration of buyers

  • Input costs, working capital needs, and storage or cold-chain dependencies

  • Export or local market mix and currency exposure where relevant

Risk themes to weigh
  • Weather, pests, and commodity price swings

  • Operational disruption in transport and storage

  • Working-capital strain between harvest and payment cycles

Technology

View campaigns

Technology spans software, digital services, and tech-enabled models across Ghana and the region. Campaigns may include B2B tools, consumer platforms, or infrastructure plays. Revenue quality, unit economics, and path to sustainability vary widely — sector labels help you group opportunities; each offer must still be read on its own merits.

Themes in offer documents
  • Recurring vs one-off revenue and customer retention

  • Cost to acquire users or clients and scalability of delivery

  • Dependencies on third-party APIs, cloud vendors, or payment rails

Risk themes to weigh
  • Rapid product or competitive change

  • Key-person and technical debt risk in smaller teams

  • Regulatory or data-localisation changes affecting digital business

Manufacturing

View campaigns

Manufacturing and light industry support import substitution and job creation. Businesses may face capex-heavy setups, raw-material volatility, and power reliability. Equity and debt structures on the platform should reflect how cash flows are expected to service investors relative to plant, inventory, and order pipelines.

Themes in offer documents
  • Capacity utilisation, order backlog, and customer credit terms

  • Raw-material sourcing and foreign-exchange exposure

  • Maintenance, safety, and environmental compliance obligations

Risk themes to weigh
  • Capex overruns and delayed production ramp-up

  • Input cost shocks and inventory obsolescence

  • Energy supply interruptions affecting output

Healthcare

View campaigns

Healthcare-related SMEs may include clinics, diagnostics, distribution, medtech, or wellness services. Demand is often resilient, but licensing, clinical quality, reimbursement dynamics, and liability considerations matter. Labels are descriptive only — review each issuer’s disclosures and licences carefully.

Themes in offer documents
  • Regulatory registrations, professional oversight, and insurance cover

  • Revenue mix: out-of-pocket vs corporate vs public programmes

  • Capital needs for equipment, consumables, and talent retention

Risk themes to weigh
  • Regulatory or standards changes affecting operations

  • Reputational and clinical incident risk

  • Slow adoption or reimbursement delays for new services

Financial Services

View campaigns

Non-bank financial services, credit intermediation, and adjacent models can expand access to finance for households and SMEs. These businesses are often tightly regulated. Campaign materials should clearly describe permissions, partnerships with licensed institutions, and how investor capital is protected structurally — always read the offer document in full.

Themes in offer documents
  • Licences, permitted activities, and key institutional partners

  • Credit quality, provisioning approach, and concentration of borrowers

  • Technology, fraud controls, and operational resilience

Risk themes to weigh
  • Credit-cycle and default risk in underlying portfolios

  • Regulatory enforcement or rule changes affecting the model

  • Liquidity and funding mismatches if poorly structured

Retail and consumer businesses range from branded chains to e-commerce and distribution. Performance ties to location, inventory discipline, and brand strength. Seasonality around holidays and pay cycles can affect cash flow — use sector context alongside issuer-specific forecasts in offer materials.

Themes in offer documents
  • Same-store or channel trends and gross-margin stability

  • Inventory turns, shrinkage, and supplier terms

  • Lease costs, foot traffic or online conversion assumptions

Risk themes to weigh
  • Consumer confidence and discretionary spending shifts

  • Competition from informal or cross-border sellers

  • Inventory markdowns and working-capital pressure

Energy encompasses power generation assets, renewables, efficiency solutions, and downstream services relevant to Ghana’s grid and off-grid markets. Projects may be capital-intensive with long payback periods. Assess construction timelines, offtake or tariff assumptions, and maintenance obligations in each campaign’s disclosures.

Themes in offer documents
  • Asset life, warranties, and operations-and-maintenance plans

  • Offtake, tariff, or customer contract structures

  • Grid connection, permitting, and environmental requirements

Risk themes to weigh
  • Construction delay and cost overrun

  • Resource intermittency (for renewables) and equipment failure

  • Policy or tariff changes affecting project economics

Real Estate

View campaigns

Real estate–linked opportunities may include development, rental portfolios, or structured debt secured on property. Valuations, title diligence, and completion risk are central. Crowdfunding does not remove the illiquidity or cyclicality of property markets — suitability and horizon should match your personal circumstances.

Themes in offer documents
  • Title, encumbrances, and completeness of permits

  • Construction budget, contractor track record, and sales or lease assumptions

  • Security package and enforcement considerations for debt-like instruments

Risk themes to weigh
  • Market downturns and slower absorption of inventory

  • Construction delays and cost inflation

  • Legal or boundary disputes affecting collateral value

Education providers and edtech models serve a growing demand for skills and credentials. Revenue may be subscription-like or term-based, with sensitivity to enrolment and pricing power. Verify accreditation claims, delivery quality, and technology dependencies in the issuer’s materials.

Themes in offer documents
  • Enrolment trends, completion rates, and pricing strategy

  • Content IP, platform stability, and delivery partnerships

  • Regulatory recognition of programmes where applicable

Risk themes to weigh
  • Competition from public and informal providers

  • Technology adoption risk and content obsolescence

  • Regulatory changes affecting fees or certification

The “Other” category captures businesses that do not fit standard labels or span multiple verticals. These campaigns can be diverse; the sector tag is a coarse filter only. Extra care on the business model, governance, and use of proceeds is warranted — there is no substitute for reading the full offer document and asking issuers questions through permitted channels.

Themes in offer documents
  • Clarity of the revenue model and path to cash generation

  • Governance, related-party transactions, and use of funds

  • How risks are disclosed relative to peers in more common sectors

Risk themes to weigh
  • Higher uncertainty where comparables are scarce

  • Complexity across multiple business lines or geographies

  • Potential for reclassification or operational pivot
